Drone Age Aerial
Sure the Phantom 3 is great, but we all knew that it was only a matter of time before the new one comes out. Very reliable sources indicate that DJI, the makers of the prolific Phantom 3 released last year are set to rock the market once more.
Here are some of the rumors the we have heard:
DJI Phantom 4: Flight Time
All drone flyers want nothing more than long flight time. Leaks have indicated that the Phantom 4 drone will come with larger capacity batteries. Also new and more efficient motors and esc’s will give the Phantom 4 longer flight times.
The current model (Phantom 3 and variants thereof) has a flight time of about 20 minutes. There is no official announcement of the flight duration, but photos have leaked showing a larger battery. The larger battery capacity could simply indicate more time flying. Rumors are that the flight times could be anywhere from 30-50 minutes.
DJI Phantom 4: Camera Features
The video recording mode of the 2014 model (Phantom 2) was 1080p, while the Phantom 3 that was released in 2015 is capable of recording in 4K. There are indications that a number of video features — such as the bitrate, frame rate, low light performance and color processing to mention a few — will be thoroughly improved upon.
The resolution of the video stream via Lightbridge is also likely to go up from its present 720p HD to 1080p FHD. Improvements on video latency and the already existing video signals of 3 miles have also been mentioned.
DJI Phantom 4: Obstacle Avoidance
With news that other drone manufacturers will release drones this year with similar features, the Phantom 4 is most likely going to have obstacle avoidance. There are no indications that obstacle avoidance will be ready on the day of release but could be a possibility.
DJI Phantom 4: Release Date
No one’s sure of when the Phantom 4 will hit the market, but if coincidences are anything to go by, then it just might be released sometime in April like the previous models.
Spring is right around the corner and we can’t wait to get back out on the water!!
Here is another great video from our partners at Drone Age Media
Police have joined forces with Guard From Above, a raptor-training security firm based in the Hague, to keep wayward drones from causing trouble.
As the use of drones increasingly worries everyone from firefighters and air traffic control to law enforcement, Netherlands’ national police have aligned themselves with a group that hates flying robots on principle: the bald eagle.
Dutch police have joined forces with Guard From Above, a raptor-training security firm based in the Hague, to keep wayward drones from causing trouble by snatching them out of the sky.
Guard From Above’s chief executive officer Sjoerd Hoogendoorn described the project in a press release as “a low-tech solution for a high-tech problem”. He and the company’s chief operating officer, Ben de Keijzer, train birds of prey to catch unauthorised unmanned vehicles – Hoogendoorn’s background is in private security, de Keijzer’s is in bird-handling and training.
